How much data do you need on holiday?
Realistic daily usage numbers so you do not buy too much or too little.
4 min
Usage per activity
Maps and navigation: about 5 MB per hour. Scrolling social media: 100–150 MB per hour. Music streaming: 70 MB per hour. HD video: 1–3 GB per hour. Video calls: 500 MB per hour.
Rules of thumb
Light user (maps, WhatsApp, the occasional search): 500 MB per day, so 5 GB for a week.
Average user (social media, photo uploads, music streaming): 1 GB per day, so 10 GB for ten days.
Heavy user or digital nomad (video calls, laptop hotspot): 2–3 GB per day, or pick an unlimited bundle.
Unlimited is not always unlimited
Many 'unlimited' bundles have a fair-use policy: after, say, 2 GB per day the speed drops to 512 kbps or 1 Mbps. That is fine for maps and chat but not for HD video. We show that speed cap per offer.
